St Martha’s Hospital is a 138-year-old Catholic Institution run by the ‘Sisters of the Good Shepherd’ Convent. The dept of Obstetrics & Gynecology at St Martha’s Hospital has been functional since its inception and is renowned for providing outstanding maternity care. Generations of Bangaloreans have been born here since 1886.
The dept has two units for smooth functioning headed by Dr Sujoy Mitra, HOD and Chief Unit 1, with Dr Shilpashree, Chief of Unit 2. Both have vast clinical experience of more than 20 years in the speciality. The team is ably assisted by two Junior Consultants, four Senior Registrars and DNB postgraduate students. The dept provides full range of Obstetric and Gynecologic services including gynecologic oncology. Services provided are High Risk Pregnancy with special interest in Diabetes in pregnancy (GDM), Minimal Access Surgery, Preventive Oncology, Mid-life Clinic, Adolescent Gynecology, Uro-gynecology, Basic Infertility Treatment etc.
The dept has general wards and private wards to cater to all strata of society. The labour suites are well equipped with all the necessary equipment for conducting deliveries and for essential neonatal care. Our NICU is well equipped to deal with all term and preterm babies.
The hospital has highly trained nurses to take care of patients, spacious well-lit rooms and clean wards. It has a NABL accredited laboratory and a well-stocked Blood Bank. The Operation Theatre (OT) is well equipped with the latest equipment and manned by highly experienced OT staff.
