The Department of Medicine at St Martha’s Hospital has always been one of the most active & busiest departments in terms of patient footfall which includes both Out-Patient attendance and In-Patient occupancy. With active interaction and participation from Neurology, Gastroenterology, Cardiology, Pulmonology, Oncology, Nephrology, Community medicine and the DOTS programme we stay committed to providing compassionate, evidence based, quality health care to patients of St Martha’s Hospital.

Each unit conducts OPD three times a week (9:00 am to 4:00 pm) –
UNIT 1 - Monday/Wednesday/Friday

UNIT 2 – Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday
Diabetes clinic conducted by Dr Ashok.S.N. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Medicine department also attends to Emergency Medical patients and references from all other departments round the clock. One resident medical doctor from department of Medicine is stationed in the Emergency department to attend to all critical patients on a priority basis.

Medical High Dependency Unit (MHDU)
It consists of 35 beds which accommodates 16 male, 16 female patients and 3 isolation beds. All the cots have centralized suction and oxygen. This ward also consists of procedure room, equipment room, Nurses Station, Doctors room and patient’s attenders waiting area

Out–Patient E.C.G Unit
This unit functions round the clock. The work is managed by one ECG Technician, two junior Technicians and one Technical Assistant who have had in-service training.

Speciality Clinics

GASTROENTEROLOGY - Dr. Harish K C, DM (Gastroenterology) has been performing oesophagogastro duodenoscopy, colonoscopies and sigmoidoscopies.

NEUROLOGY – Dr. Anto Ignat Stany M DM(Neurology)is available as a full-time consultant Neurologist for OPD and all emergency consults.

MEDICAL ONCOLOGY – Dr. Anil Kumar Narasiyappa DM (Medical Oncology)

NEPHROLOGY - Dr. Srinidhi Hassan Chandrashekar DM (Nephrology)

Pulmonology - Dr. Shivashankari MD (Respiratory Medicine)

Procedures like ascitic tapping, thoracic paracentesis, lumbar punctures, central venous line insertion, bone marrow aspirations are carried out routinely in the wards.

Academics and community

Department of Medicine is actively involved in academic sessions (Seminars, Journal Club, Case Presentation, CPC and bed side clinics). Training of DNB Residents & Interns and contributing to the development of future healthcare force is one of the main objectives of our department. This year 4 seats were allotted to our department by NBE New Delhi. Our department has consistently maintained a 100% pass percentage in the first attempt over the last 10 years.
Department of Medicine conducted the DNB Final practical examination on 31st August 2023 as per the instructions of National board of Examination.

Our Consultants and post graduate students attend medical camps on a regular basis aiding in improving community health care. Our Post graduate students also actively participate in all extra-curricular activities and celebrations organised by our institute.
