Research

Registered under the Societies Act in the year 2015, the Research Division of St. Martha’s Hospital is created for the purpose of facilitating & engaging in academic research among both, the institutional colleagues and collaborators.
The Research Division is the central administrative body which is engaged in SMH’s Staff to pursue several areas of academic research activity such as teaching research programs, proprietary research projects, collaborative projects etc.

The Research division mainly focuses on the following four Objectives:
• Organizing the peer-review of the research proposals through the Research Advisory Board (RAB) and the Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC). The IEC is constituted as per the ICMR Guidelines
• Assist the internal Faculty in terms of planning their research and getting appropriate approvals from the RAB & the IEC
• Support SMH staff with their Grant applications, and in writing and publishing their clinical or research finding
• Establish collaborations both within and outside the Country

The first initiative of the Research Division was getting the recognition of the Hospital as a Research Organization (SIRO) from the Department of Scientific & Industrial Research (DSIR), GOI.
Currently SMH has signed MoUs with KLE College of Pharmacy (Bengaluru), and Al-Ameen College of Pharmacy (Bengaluru) for collaborating both on post-graduate education by research (M. Pharm & Pharm. D & Ph. D) and institutional research. Other Institutes where the MoU has been signed and yet to being research activity are KSR College of Technology (Thiruchengode), and Kalinga-IIT (Bhubaneshwar). An international collaboration is under discussion.
Starting from 2014, the research division has facilitated the publication of 24 research papers grouped as either case reports, or basic research data generated collaboratively.
The Research Division is led by Dr. Maneesh Paul. S (Chief Scientific Officer) under the Office of the Medical Superintendent.
